Purpose of LC

What are the characteristics we are looking for be on the Leadership Council?

  • The Leadership Council members would be individuals who have owned their own companies and are either arriving at or have arrived at a philanthropic stage of their careers.
  • They have the ability and the desire to contribute to building the CM program.
  • They are individuals of character and integrity.
  • They have exhibited leadership in the industry.
  • These are they who want to help find other individuals who are willing to contribute in a significant way to the growth and development of the CM program.

What is meant by building the CM program?

  4. Funding an endowment to support student activities such as competition and convention attendance.

Benefits provide to the Construction Management program as a result of the Leadership Council: Funding the CM stipulated faculty position allows the CM program to develop a Construction Management track within the MBA degree offered by the Marriott School of Business.

Funding faculty development will assist in keeping the faculty fresh and current in the trends and issues of construction. It will also assist individuals in pursuing their Ph.D. which enables the CM program to continue to develop new faculty. By developing the CM pool of potential faculty continuation of the CM program at BYU Provo will be ensured.

Funding three support staff is needed. The staff member would be assist with student advising and financial accounting. The second would function as an editor, newsletter, external relations person. The third staff person would be over computers and website support.

Funding an endowment to support student activities provides students with the means to represent BYU to the construction industry. It also provides a tremendous opportunity for student learning. During the competitions, students apply what they have learned from their classes and work experience and apply it to formulate the best solution for the competition project. It is common to hear from graduating student exit interviews that competing in the student competitions was the event in their education that brought all of the learning from the classes together. For many of the students the competition was their most memorable experience at BYU.
